Bravery Awards Presented to MAGEN DAVID ADOM Team Members

Although seriously wounded during a terrorist shooting attack that occurred near the entrance to the City of David National Park in Jerusalem, MAGEN DAVID ADOM volunteer Nadav Wineberg, who is also an IDF officer, returned fire and managed to neutralize the terrorist despite his injuries.

Nadav’s brother, Boaz Wineberg, who was also on the scene when the terrorist attacked — and is also a MAGEN DAVID ADOM volunteer — immediately reported the incident to the 101 Emergency Call Center as he began treating both Nadav and their father, who was also injured in the attack.

When MAGEN DAVID ADOM teams arrived at the scene, Nadav and his father, Barak, were evacuated to a nearby hospital in Jerusalem.

“Until the terror attack, at every Shabbat meal I’d ask myself whether it’s worthwhile that my two sons volunteer in MAGEN DAVID ADOM, but after I was injured, and so was Nadav, there is no longer a dilemma.”

Barak Wineberg, Nadav and Boaz’s father

These two remarkable brothers were honored recently during a special awards evening that took place in the presence of Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich. During the ceremony, MAGEN DAVID ADOM commendation pins were presented to Nadav and Boaz for their actions under life-threatening conditions during the terror attack.

Fourteen other MAGEN DAVID ADOM volunteers, including EMTs, paramedics, and doctors who treated Nadav and his father Barak, also received awards of appreciation and excellence for their brave actions during the terror attack.

“Incidents such as these give us great strength to continue what we do and know that we are where we should be. We have incredible staff and volunteers who do holy work … I’d like to thank Minister Bezalel Smotrich for his great support of MAGEN DAVID ADOM as the national rescue organization, and for being here tonight to present these commendation certificates and pins, and of course to our heroes, the MAGEN DAVID ADOM volunteers and staff all across the country who save lives every hour of every day.”

Director-General Eli Bin

We also want to express our appreciation to all those who have so faithfully supported the brave men and women of MAGEN DAVID ADOM, for they also deserve our respect and appreciation and share in these honors with them.
