MAGEN DAVID ADOM continues to strengthen the State of Israel’s operational emergency response system by expanding its fleet of bulletproof ambulances, enabling teams to provide life-saving medical care even under security threats and in complex areas.

The bulletproof ambulances were generously donated by MAGEN DAVID ADOM Friends organizations worldwide, including the “Samaritan’s Purse” organization, the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews (IFCJ), and with the assistance of the Ministry of Defense, alongside other major donors who recognize the utmost importance of saving lives and strengthening response capabilities in the field.

The ambulances are armored by Plasan Sasa in accordance with the strict requirements and standards of the Home Front Command, allowing teams to operate safely even under ongoing threats.

The ambulances are deployed at strategic locations across the country, with an emphasis on high-risk areas, including the northern border, the Gaza envelope, the Judea and Samaria region, Eilat, the Dead Sea area, and the Jordan Valley. All ambulances are fully staffed and operational.

As of March 31, 2026, MAGEN DAVID ADOM operates 80 bulletproof ambulances, including 29 mobile intensive care units, with the remainder being life-support ambulances.

On October 7, 2023, the number stood at only 24. Today, the 80th bulletproof ambulance has been inaugurated, joining routine operational service and saving lives daily. In the near future, the number of bulletproof ambulances is expected to reach approximately 100, as part of ongoing preparedness for Israel’s security and operational challenges.

The bulletproof unit, based on a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter platform by Colmobil is the first of its kind in Israel and was designed according to the highest standards, manufactured by Plasan Sasa, and assembled in Poland by Zeszuta. The ballistic protection provides maximum safety for both crew and patients, enabling teams to safely reach incident scenes and deliver advanced medical care under any threat. The unit includes an automatic air filtration system, a 3,000 cc engine, and measures 5.92 m in length, 2.02 m in width, 2.95 m in height, with a weight of approximately 5 tons.

“The bulletproof ambulances are a significant reinforcement for MDA teams, enabling them to operate even in complex and high-risk conditions. Thanks to the tremendous support of MDA’s friends in Israel and around the world, together with the Ministry of Defense, we continue to strengthen the system and ensure rapid, professional, and safe medical care for every citizen, anywhere and at any time,” said Eli Bin, MAGEN DAVID ADOM Director General.
