When Real Need Met Real Love

EVERY DAY the Covid-19 hotline at the MAGEN DAVID ADOM Emergency Center receives thousands upon thousands of calls for information or assistance.

Recently, two EMTs received a call from a 78-year-old man requesting a Covid-19 test. His name was Morris. As the EMTs spoke with him, they learned he was living alone, he had no family, and due to his isolation, he was unable to pick up the weekly food he depended upon. Now Morris was down to his last few slices of bread.

After her shift ended, one EMT called her sister, who also works at the Covid hotline. They wanted to do something to help Morris.

The next morning, the sisters collected donations from other employees and volunteers at MAGEN DAVID ADOM’s National Operations Center. Then they called Morris and asked him what he needed and what he liked to eat. They compiled a shopping list that included frozen food, canned goods, basic products, hygiene products, drinks, and more.

So, when Senior EMT Efi Levy arrived at Morris’ house to test him for Covid-19, he brought with him boxes and supermarket bags overflowing with groceries.

“We did a very big act of kindness accompanied by medical help,” Efi said. “Immediately after I took a sample from him, I brought into the house the crates with the food we bought. It was very exciting to see his joy.”

After being tested for Covid and receiving the groceries, Morris was deeply moved. “Thank you, thank you, thank you for what you brought me,” he said. “It will take me a year to finish all the food!”

“We had great distress in our hearts until the moment the food arrived. It is a great feeling, knowing that his fridge is full of good food he likes and that he is not going to sleep hungry,” said Shirel and Yonat Daskal.

The 25,000 dedicated, highly trained paramedics, EMTs, and first responders of MAGEN DAVID ADOM serve the people of Israel from their hearts, often going above and beyond the call of duty. 90% are volunteers and all 100% share the same goal — to save lives every single day.

Thank you for helping make their work possible.

“This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of the Lord’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God.”
