Those who endured the attacks are beginning to share their stories of survival. Gilad Honwald, an EMT with MAGEN DAVID ADOM (MDA), lives in Kibbutz Alumim in southern Israel. At 6:30 a.m. on October 7, he was awakened by Red Alert sirens that typically signal a rocket attack. Not yet knowing what was unfolding, Gilad rushed out with his son to search for any neighbors who might have been wounded. They heard gunshots coming from the direction of the village of Nahal Oz and received messages that there were terrorists in the kibbutz. The death toll has climbed to 1,200, and more than 3,000 people have been wounded. Rocket attacks continue to pour out of Gaza, pelting southern Israel and Tel Aviv with wave after wave of bombardments.

Today, the President of the State of Israel, Isaac Herzog, alongside his wife Mrs. Michal Herzog, visited the MDA National Operations Center in Kiryat Ono. They met with the hardworking MDA paramedics, EMTs, and doctors who tirelessly respond to every medical call and need. They interacted with the MDA teams that have been operating under fire in the Western Negev Communities, learning about their brave endeavors as they risk their lives to save others.

Georgi Guliak, a senior paramedic at Magen David Adom (MDA), Israel’s national emergency medical service, woke up Saturday morning, October 7, and went to his regular shift at the MDA station in Sderot. Just before he arrived at the station, he started hearing gunshots on the road he was traveling on. Victims, including those in serious and critical condition, began arriving at the station. As they provided initial medical care, massive gunfire was heard outside. The team decided to lock the doors, take shelter inside the station, and continue treating the severely wounded that remained at the station until they could be evacuated to hospitals in bulletproof ambulances.
