Expectant mother Chen Yom Tov Tutian was visiting her parents’ home in Rishon Lezion recently when she began feeling contractions. Tutian felt her labor progressing so quickly she couldn’t get to the hospital. So her sister and mother called MAGEN DAVID ADOM for help.

Their call was answered by EMT Noam Porat who dispatched additional care to the house while helping the family over the phone. After asking a few key questions, Porat understood that Tutian was in active labor and guided a home birth over the phone.

Moments later, Senior EMT Avichai Tauri arrived at the house on his Medicycle and found that Tutian had delivered a baby girl with her umbilical cord wrapped around her neck, a condition called nuchal cord. Tauri carefully removed the umbilical cord and established that the baby was healthy.

“When I arrived, I saw that the baby was in danger because of the umbilical cord being wrapped around her neck. I tried to calm the family’s anxiety since I knew this was scary for them. As soon as I removed it, the baby began crying, a sign that she is healthy,” shared Tauri. “It is always exciting to help bring a new life into the world.”

Tutian recently reunited with Porat and Tauri and had a chance to thank them for helping her bring precious Noya, whose name means divine beauty, safely into the world.

“Noam guided us patiently, professionally, and attentively and Avichai not only instilled a sense of wellbeing and calm, he saved my daughter by removing her umbilical cord from around her neck,” reflected Tutian. “It is important for me to say thank you to the Creator of the World for sending the right emissaries at the right time and the right place and for these visible miracles. I am grateful that everything went peacefully.”

“I was happy to help this family deliver a healthy and sweet baby,” Porat said. “This is a reminder of how meaningful my work can be.”
